Anne Gilshinan named Female Athlete of the Year

On Saturday night the South East Radio Sports Awards were held, and Slaney Olympic’s Anne Gilshinan was named Female Athlete of the Year. Anne had an amazing 2019 claiming three World Records: 800m (W55) 2:19.63; 1500m (W55) 4:41.46 and 1 mile (W55) 5:08.47. These World Records are in addition to the silver medal Anne earned in the W50 1500m at the World Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland.

In addition to her on-the-track accomplishments, it should be noted that Anne attended many of the Slaney Olympic Summer League Races where she was on the side of the road supporting her family and fellow Club Members. I am reminded of a quote by President Abraham Lincoln, ‘Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it, the tree is the real thing.’ Anne Gilshinan is like a tree, the real thing! I know I speak for every member of Slaney Olympic when I say we are very proud of your on-the-track accomplishments and we all look forward to seeing what new accomplishments you will achieve in 2020.

The Three Legends 6k

The Three Legends 6k took place in Davidstown on Sunday where Catherine Roche was the first woman home and Sean Crotty was second overall and the first Slaney man home. A special shout-out to Scooby Chapman, Marie Chapman’s dog, who was the first dog home!
