Slaney Olympic hosted the Mr Oil County Intermediate Road Race on Friday for the first time in Ballymurn just outside Enniscorthy on a very warm and humid evening.

The Ladies race was first off at 7.30 with 19 ladies on the starting line.  An early breakaway group of Slaney Olympic runner Mary Gorham, Lillian Lawless from SBR and Suzanne Keane from Croghan saw a very fast pace, but it was on the hill in the final last km that Mary Gorham made her mark passing Lillian and finishing first across the line and winning Gold.  Angie Redmond also ran a excellent race finishing in 3rd position and wining a Bronze medal.  Next home was Esther O Leary in 4th and together with Gosia Syzmura in 7th position, Slaney won Team Gold.  Also running very strongly for Slaney was Ciara Kearney, Helena Browne and Gretta Roberts Tyrell.

Next off was the Mens 8k race which was ran in the opposite direction to the Ladies race, 52 mens started the race and United Striders and Croghan dominated the race from the start.  First home for Slaney was John Foley in 10th position in 29.22.  Also running strongly was Bobby Redmond, Will Doyle, Sean Crotty, Colin Garry, Jessie O Connor, Peter Ryan, Billy Reck, Clinton White, Michael Quighley, Ger Murphy and Paul Murphy.
