The County Masters Cross Country Championship at Lingstown today resulted in gold and bronze for the men’s team.The women took bronze. Veteran Terry O’Keefe, who is hanging up his cross country spikes this evening, has been running cross country for 57 years and has represented Ireland in the Masters on many occasions won the over 70′s category.
In the women’s race Siobhan O’Shea had a terrific run leading the team of herself, Sabina Sweeney and Mag Dunphy to bronze medal position. Slaney Olympic took 4 of the 5 veteran categories – over 40: Siobhan O’Shea; over 50: Mag Dunphy; over 55: Annis Kehoe; over 60: Jane Porter
In the men’s race Kevin Murphy ran a superb race to finish 7 seconds ahead of Myles Gibbons to take the title. Martin Monaghan had a great run to finish 3rd with Jim Stafford just 4 seconds behind in 4th position. Slaney Olympic took gold with 11 points to spare over SBR who took silver. The Slaney Olympic B team of Dave Barron (7th), John Roban (16th) and Billy Reck (17th) took bronze.
