Catherine Murphy has just been awarded County Wexford Athlete of the Month for October. This is a remarkable achievement for the mother of two who only switched from the gym to the roads last spring.

Catherine started training with the club in April and won the first summer league race, the Ballycarney 5 mile in 34 minutes. She went on to win most of the summer league races and was awarded the Ladies Trophy in September.

But the best was yet to come with the start of the cross country season. She comfortably won the County Wexford novice cross country title and then proceeded on to win the intermediate a couple of weeks later. Then it was on to Mullingar for the Leinster intermediates. Catherine was a star performer again finishing second over 40 and fourth overall in the Masters. Coach Jason O’Connor’s work with Catherine has been well rewarded.
