The final race in the Slaney Olympic Summer League took  place last Friday. This 2 miler on the Old Dublin Road in Enniscorthy was organised by race director, Mag Dunphy

Up for grabs were not only prizes on the night but also trophies for first, second and third Slaney Olympian over the nine race series with five races out of the nine to count.

Despite the blustery conditions Kevin Murphy of Slaney Olympic stormed home in 10.14. Paul Gibbons of SBR finished second in 10.35 with Martin Monaghan (SO) just six seconds behind in third.

First lady on the night was Catherine Murphy (SO) in a time of 12.08. This was a fantastic finish to Catherine’s first season of road running. Second was Yvette Shovelin of St Killian’s in 14.28 and Siobhan O’Shea, also in her first year running with Slaney Olympic finishing third in 14.41. 

After the race all retired to Treacy’s Hotel for a barbeque, prize giving and end of league party. Having correlated the results over the full nine races the first three Slaney Olympic men and women were presented with trophies. Jason O’Connor took the overall men’s title and Catherine Murphy took the female award.  Martin Monaghan was second man with Paul Brown third. Second lady was Joan Doyle with Gretta Roberts-Tyrrell third.

The final awards for the evening were for the Spring Trail League series. Here Martin Monaghan took the honours for the men with Mag Dunphy receiving the women’s trophy.
