The eighth race in the Slaney Olympic AC Summer handicap league took place last Friday in Davidstown with race director Fergus Murphy in charge.

 The 10K course started at the school and went through the village before turning left.  There was a kilometre of climb at this stage with an initial steep 200 metres. Niall Sheil of St Killians took the lead pushing hard over the first 5K but Kevin Murphy kept him in his sights and finished the stronger in a really competitive race.

Kevin finished in a time of 34.10, some 50 seconds faster than his time last week in Taghmon. Niall was just 5 seconds behind in 34.15. First Slaney Olympian home was Martin Monaghan in third place in 35.48. Jason O’Connor(SO) was 4th in 36.24 and Sean Murphy (United Striders) was 5th in 37.00

First lady home was Catherine Murphy of Slaney Olympic in 42.03 followed by Joan Doyle (SO) in 47.24. Ann Bolger was third in 49.13. Full results are available below.

Afterwards runners, helpers and supporters retired to The Millenium Bar for refreshments and prize giving. Well done to race director Fergus Murphy and thanks to Moloney Windows for sponsoring the main prizes.

The last race in the series will be a two miler on 23rd September on the Old Dublin Road at the earlier time of 6.30pm, race director Mag Dunphy. In the meantime don’t forget the Oylegate Half Marathon and 10K this coming Sunday, 28th August.
