The third race in the Trail Series took place on Sunday 29th May on Gibbet Hill on a pleasant Sunday morning. There was a good turnout of runners from club, county and further afield.

The 7 mile course starts out with a relatively flat three miles before the climbing begins. Then the work starts in earnest as the route climbs steadily for the next mile. The fifth mile gives some respite before a short descent. Here unfortunately some of the leading runners misinterpreted the direction of the arrow at a junction and did not notice the additional (subtle!) flags marking the correct track and ended up taking a scenic detour! Sorry for any confusion…on taking in the markers off the course today I admit it was not 100% clear…first time anyone has gone wrong in any trail race we have marked.

The record stands at 44.02 (Keith Heary in 2009). As we waited at the finish and the time ticked 45, 46 47,48 minutes we guessed that there was a problem. The leaders as well as well as a number of others added half a mile or so to their run. We are assured that it was a very scenic diversion but it was unfortunate. Thanks to all for being so understanding.

Obviously this has had an effect on the results but here they are anyway.
