After a worrying week of weather watching this year’s Christmas Cracker went ahead on a lovely bright sunny morning on 19th December.

Having decided to give the go ahead for the Christmas Cracker (following the careful perusal of all available forecasts) and in consultation with Andy, it was with fear and trepidation that I pulled back the curtains on Sunday morning  revealing a light dusting of fresh snow in Castledockrell. But with prizes bought and food prepared we were not for turning. Luckily it also appeared that Enniscorthy had escaped the snow flurry so it was thumbs up for the race. The only concern was would those that had to travel a distance travel that extra mile?

Well they did. And we were also delighted to welcome some non club runners; Dominic Ryan of SBR, Sean Murphy of United Striders and some friends of Niall O’Connor.

And indeed it was one of the visitors who took the honours. Dominic, fresh from his victory in the county seniors, was first across the line over the 5K course in 16.15 with Ted Flannelly one minute behind in second place followed nine seconds later by Mick Jordan in third position. First lady home was the ever improving Martina Conran in 22.27  some 32 seconds ahead of Dawn Whelan (22.59) Mary Doyle was third in 23.09.

When the handicap was applied Mick Jordan was declared the men’s winner with Martina taking the women’s trophy.

After the race we all adjourned to Donohues back lounge where we were fed copious servings of Andy’s colcannon before an amazing amount of fantastic prizes were dished out…how do you do it, Andy!

After the prize giving it was down to the serious business of the evening with pints to be drunk and songs to be sung.

Go mbeirimid beo ag an am seo aris!

Well done Andy on putting up a great show as usual.
