1 mile 14 Nov 030

The first race in the winter league took place on 14th November over a 1 mile course on the Old Dublin Road.

Thirteen brave souls were seen hovering with menace in the sub zero temperatures outside Kavanagh’s on the Old Dublin Road shortly after 9am last Sunday morning for the first race in the winter league. Shortly after 9.30 Jane sent them on their way with photographer Graham doubling as lead car driver. Mick Kelly of Gowran AC took the lead from the off with Farmer, looking like he was well recovered from his marathon exploits, in close attendance.  Next came Edward followed by Paul and, unbeknownst to Paul, the quiet sneaky Chris who waited until the last 100 metres to make his move and snatch 4th place. First lady home was Joan Doyle followed 3 seconds later by Mags. Donie had an excellent run taking six seconds off his time over the same course in September despite the slightly slippery conditions underfoot. He attributes his improvement to the wearing of new super lightweight Slaney Olympic vest. Lar was a little slower than in September….”I’m two months older” said he….but maybe playing cards and drinking till 3am had more to do with it!

Well done to everyone who took part and a big thank you to Bridget for her marshalling duties. We hope to see you all again and more besides at the 2 mile cross country on Nov 28th.
