The Slaney Olympic A.C. road summer league continued on Friday, August 3rd with a 4 mile race in Ballymurn to coincide with the festival weekend there. A fast race saw the magnificent seven of (J.Clancey; P.Gibbons; Farmer; J.O’Connor; J.Stafford; M.Clancey and M.Gibbons), all going under 6 min miles, despite heavy showers.
First home in the race was James Clancey of DMP, in a blistering 21:31; followed in a close second and third by Paul Gibbons of SBR 22:16 and only seconds behind was Farmer in 22:18, being first home for Slaney Olympic.
The Ladies race saw a welcome return to victory after injury by Catherine Murphy of Slaney Olympic in 26:25; followed by Lillian Lawless of Macamores in second place with a time of 28:21 and another good performance by Martina O’Sullivan of Slaney Olympic saw her home in third with 28:55.
Refreshments and prize giving followed in Ballymurn hall afterwards and the hot drinks and sandwiches were a welcome sight after the rain. A great job by Bobby on behalf of the club and to all those who helped out.
