A total of 62 runners lined up for the first race of the Slaney Olympic Audi Summer League on the Old Dublin Road on Friday, 10th May.

Thanks to Austin Codd registration was indoors in the comfort of Audi Enniscorthy Showrooms where there was a tempting range of Audi cars on display. The race started at Kavanagh meats and finished at Power Plant Hire. With a strong south westerly wind blowing it was a battle against the wind all the way and particularly over the last 400 metres where the finish is in sight but takes so long to get to!

Members of three clubs battled it out at the front of the field. James Cloney of St Killians was first across the line in 4.49. Next was Slaney Olympic man, Farmer, in 4.55 with third place going to Paul Gibbons in 4.59. Siobhan O’Shea, Martina O’Sullivan and Jean Mernagh, all from Slaney, were the first three ladies home with only 12 seconds between 1st and 3rd.

Well done to the finish team of Paul Murphy, Bridget Doyle and Dashy O’Sullivan who had to contend with recording some very close finishes and a problem with reading numbers which folded over in the wind. Suggestion: put a pin close to the edge in the middle on each side rather than top and bottom! The results are below. Hopefully they are all correct but if there is anyone out of place let us know. Next year we had better video the finish of this race!
